Project Update - 2023.11.16

Hello again!

I'm still very busy working on stuff before this is really ready to be active in a more fun way. Other than building cool mechs and making lore for them I've been working on the procgen competition system. Without going into too much detail, partly because I want to keep much of it obscure for now, it's coming along quite nicely!

Blaseball and CPU vs CPU stuff was a big inspiration to me so I wanted to include something like that in this project. Sure it's basically just rolling dice and getting excited for the results but the human brain is great at applying significance to randomly generated numbers.

Essentially the way it works is with each mech rolling 3d6 as opposed rolls. Each mech has 5 categories of stats that each contain four stats from 0 to 5. When rolling a success is their score and below. Each die of a roll represents a different stat. This creates a lot of difficult to predict situations that should hopefully result in some fun storytelling.

Y'all like GRAPHS?

Above is a graph showing the difference between result spreads with and without the tiebreaker stat in the mix. Due to the way the system works ties are the most common result regardless of the difference in stats. While depending the context, ties would mean different things, they are kinda the least interesting result overall so I wanted to reduce their occurrence.

Now the graph is showing an example of a real roll using real planned stats. In this case it is an "Impact roll", basically determining how hard a successful attack hurt. I mention this because this percentages will vary incredibly depending on the stats of the two mechs.

Even rolls would look like this:

I'll probably mess around a bit with this so that 2 and -2 are a bit more common as well, but we'll see.

The site I used to make those graphs and do all the calculations is the wonder AnyDice.com. I highly recommend it if you need to do statistical analysis of random number generation.

That's all for now! I hope to start posting actual updates for this next week. (2024.09.09 note - lol, lmao even)
